Synopsis

A very funny and easy-to-read story about how being a REAL dinosaur means just being yourself!

Tyra has a tutu. Tops plays the trumpet. They're not like other dinosaurs. Most dinosaurs like to rage and roar. But Tyra and Tops think raging and roaring is, well, boring! They'd rather have a tea party instead, and the other dinosaurs are invited! It doesn't go so well at first, but by the time the broken teacups are cleaned up, everyone realizes that there's no right or wrong way to be a dinosaur.
A hilarious story that's perfect for dinosaur lovers, new readers, and fans of Mo Willems.

Our Review

FTC Disclosure: I received a free review copy of this book from the author and/or publisher and wrote this review voluntarily. The opinions expressed are entirely my own and is in no way affiliated with the author or publisher.

This is a really cute story about 2 young dinosaurs who are different from the other dinosaurs. Tyra likes to dance and Tops likes to play the trumpet, but all of the other dinosaurs think they should just “roar and rage” instead. They are dinosaurs after all, so why shouldn’t they?

The primary message of the book is acceptance and allowing yourself (and others) to be unique. It’s about doing what you love and supporting others to do the same.

The last 2 pages are probably my favorite of the entire book. The author’s “redefining” of each character trait was a creative way to conclude the story and its meaning.

The commentary of the mouse was also a nice touch. It’s subtle addition supports the book’s intended humor and made me chuckle along the way.

I recommend the hardcover over the digital edition due to the book’s artwork and layout. Some of the pictures take up 2 pages which felt a little choppy when reading on the Kindle.

Overall, Tea Time For Dinosaurs would be a good choice for Story Time and classroom reading for early readers. Perfect for preschool ages 3-8.

I sincerely thank Sourcebooks Early Reads for an Advanced Reader Copy of the book. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.

Overall:

This children’s picture book is very well done! I really enjoyed the story itself, as well as the way it was presented. The author put some thought into how to tell this story in a fun way.

The story begins with a simple introduction, and progresses to describe a challenge for the protagonists and concludes with a well rounded ending. All the while the mouse is adding his little bits of commentary, which I found to be a nice little touch.

All-in-all I think this is a great book for young readers. Dinosaur fans will really enjoy this one.
