A parasitic artist has moved into the guest house out back, and is slowly stripping Vera’s childhood for spare parts. He insists that he isn’t the one leaving notes around the house in her father’s handwriting… but who else could it possibly be? There are secrets yet undiscovered in the foundations of the notorious Crowder House. Vera must face them, and find out for herself just how deep the rot goes.

“Hush now, Vera-baby. Hush now.”
Welcome to the Crowder House.
Plagued by her father’s horrendous crimes and her mother’s heartless cruelty, Vera vowed to never step foot in the Crowder home again. When her estranged mother calls years later suddenly asking Vera to come back home – it was the last thing Vera wanted to. To make matters worse, her childhood home has become an exploited attraction, made evident by the eccentric artist who now lives in the guest house. When mysterious notes from her deceased, serial killer father begin to appear, Vera starts to wonder what other secrets might be lurking within the legendary Crowder House.
Part gothic horror and part speculative thriller; Just Like Home is a multi-genre mashup that puts a unique spin on the typical haunted house tropes. The ominous vibes and mysterious elements really gripped my attention, but the story’s execution and pacing could have been handled a little better. The plot does require some suspension of disbelief, however, horror, thriller and speculative science-fiction fans could equally enjoy this dark and chilling tale.
