My Book Box for June 2019. Mystery book: "The Poison Thread" by Laura Purcell and "These Witches Don't Burn" by Isabel Sterling.

The awesome My Book Box arrived today!

June is LGBTQ Pride month so the YA pick, These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling is absolutely fitting for the occasion.

SYNOPSIS:
Hannah’s a witch, but not the kind you’re thinking of. She’s the real deal. If she’s ever caught using it in front of a Reg (read: non-witch), she could lose it for good. So, Hannah spends most of her time avoiding her ex-girlfriend (and fellow Elemental Witch) while living her life like any normal person. But evidence of dark magic begins to appear all over Salem, and Hannah’s sure it’s the work of a deadly Blood Witch. She’s forced to team up with her ex-girlfriend and soon meets Morgan, a cute new ballerina in town. Trying to date amid a supernatural crisis is easier said than done, and Hannah will have to test the limits of her power if she’s going to save her coven and get the girl, especially when the attacks on Salem’s witches become deadlier by the day.

Did you also notice the Book Nerd pride pouch from Underlined and Out of Print too?! One of my favorite things about My Book Box is receiving a variety of genres and book goodies each month. I’m never disappointed!

The Poison Thread by Laura Purcell is a Victorian gothic-horror tale about a young seamstress who claims her needle and thread have the power to kill. I can’t wait to read this one!

SYNOPSIS:
Dorothea Truelove is young, wealthy, and beautiful. Ruth Butterham is young, poor, and awaiting trial for murder. When Dorothea’s charitable work brings her to Oakgate Prison, she is delighted by the chance to explore her fascination with phrenology and test her hypothesis that the shape of a person’s skull can cast a light on their darkest crimes. But when she meets one of the prisoners, the teenaged seamstress Ruth, she is faced with another strange idea: that it is possible to kill with a needle and thread–because Ruth attributes her crimes to a supernatural power inherent in her stitches.

The story Ruth has to tell of her deadly creations–of bitterness and betrayal, of death and dresses–will shake Dorothea’s belief in rationality, and the power of redemption. Can Ruth be trusted? Is she mad, or a murderer? The Poison Thread is a spine-tingling, sinister read about the evil that lurks behind the facade of innocence.

What books are you most excited about reading this month? I’ve been focusing on the BOTM Summer Slam Challenge for June and July and making some decent progress. While catching up on my Book of the Month backlogs, I’ve fallen behind on some others though. At this rate I’ll need to start a MBB Challenge in August to catch up on these too! 😛
