Synopsis

From USA TODAY Bestseller L.A. Detwiler comes a sinister psychological thriller with jaw-dropping twists.

Everyone has a breaking point. At twenty, an unplanned pregnancy seals Crystal Holt into a marriage to the abusive Richard Connor. After a stillborn birth, Crystal insists they have the baby baptized postmortem. A cynic, a drunk, and a poor man, Richard has other plans. When her monstrous husband tosses the baby into the woods to be forgotten, Crystal instantly spirals. After beating her within an inch of her life, Richard does something else he's done before—he disappears. This time, however, things feel very different…

With her husband gone, Crystal battles with the demons of abuse, dark childhood memories, and a declining mental state worsened by horrific nightmare sequences. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that something's not quite right about the way Richard disappeared this time, and Crystal is in more danger than ever. After all, not all of the dark secrets belong to Richard.

Will Crystal be able to escape from a lifetime of torture unscathed, or will she succumb to the dark secrets she's fallen prey to before?

A twisted domestic thriller that will shake even the toughest thriller fans…

⁣A Tortured Soul is a darkly twisted domestic thriller full of psychological suspense and horrific nightmares.⁣

First, I must say that this book is not for everyone and contains some Trigger Warnings* worth noting. View Triggers domestic abuse, child loss, sexual abuse.

Ok, so this book was really intense. It contains some graphic (and possibly triggering) scenes that will definitely make this a heavy read for even the toughest domestic thriller fans. ⁣

The story alternates between Chrystal’s current life with her abusive husband, Richard, and her childhood trauma and abuse from her father. After Chrystal experiences the loss of her child, she struggles to keep depression away and quickly spirals. Soon she realizes that Richard isn’t the only thing that should be feared, and Chrystal’s now in more danger than ever before. ⁣

I’ve read a lot of thrillers lately but this one is the most intense I’ve read in quite some time. The author does a fantastic job executing the dialogue and the writing is truly excellent as well. If you can handle its haunting scenes and gripping plot that stays with you long after you finish…. then this book might be just for you! ⁣ The book is scheduled for release on August 11, 2020.
